Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Recon Brief ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our AI-powered deposition summary service ("Service").
1. Information we collect
- Account Information: When you register for an account, we collect your email address, username, and display name. Passwords are stored as salted, one-way hashes and cannot be read or recovered by anyone, including Recon Brief personnel.
- Uploaded Documents: When you submit a deposition transcript for processing, the document is temporarily stored on our systems for processing and report generation. Inputs are retained only for the duration necessary to complete the processing and generation of Outputs. Upon successful generation of the Outputs, the original Input file is immediately and permanently deleted from Recon Brief's storage. You acknowledge that the Highlighted Transcript is a derivative work and not a copy of the original Input document.
- Generated Reports: The Service creates summary reports, highlighted transcripts, and statements of service from your uploaded documents. These are stored temporarily to allow downloading and availability to you.
- Usage Data: We record processing metadata including timestamps, page counts, case numbers, and case names for billing purposes.
- We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to remember your display preferences. We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies, and we collect no tracking information beyond what is necessary to operate the Service.
2. How we use your information
- Account information is used solely to authenticate your access to the Service and to send you email notifications about your processing jobs submitted to us.
- Uploaded documents are used solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you, including generation of summary reports, billing, processing diagnostics, error correction, and quality assurance of the Service. We do not read, review, or analyze your documents for any purpose other than providing the Service.
- Usage data is used for billing, invoicing, and service administration.
- We do not use your data for marketing, advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to providing the Service.
3. Third-party data processing
- Anthropic API: The text extracted from your uploaded documents is transmitted to the Anthropic API (Claude) for AI analysis. Anthropic's commercial API terms prohibit the use of customer inputs and outputs for model training. You may review Anthropic's commercial API terms and data handling practices at: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/commercial-terms
- We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your information to any other third party.
- We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
4. Data retention
- Account information is retained for the duration of your account. If your account is deleted, your account information is permanently removed.
- As noted in Section 1, original uploaded documents are permanently deleted from our systems immediately upon successful generation of the Outputs. We do not retain copies of your original transcripts.
- Outputs are retained for thirty (30) days after processing to allow re-downloading and access by you. After this period, they are automatically and permanently deleted from our systems.
- Usage logs (timestamps, page counts, case identifiers) are retained for billing and accounting purposes.
5. Data security
- All data in transit between your browser and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
- Uploaded documents and generated reports are stored on encrypted storage.
- Access to the Service requires authenticated user credentials.
- While we implement reasonable security measures to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot and do not guarantee absolute security.
- Any data stored during our limited retention periods (such as generated reports) is protected by AES-256 encryption or equivalent industry-standard encryption protocols.
6. Your rights
- You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at support@recon-brief.com.
- You may download your generated reports at any time during the retention period as it currently then exists, subject to modification of our Terms of Service.

8. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

If you are using the Service under a separate written agreement signed by Recon Brief (such as an Initial Use Agreement), the terms of that written agreement shall control in the event of a conflict with this Policy.
